When God is Silent

Acts23:12-35

By Rebekah

1. Background: Conspiracy against Paul

Hardship is inevitable. Let’s look at how Paul went through his hard times and How God took care of him in the silent moment.

Paul has had his share of dark days—beating, stoning, shipwreck, imprisonment… Sometimes Jesus appears to him with words of encouragement; sometimes God helps him through; yet most of the times God is silent—just like this one when a secretive group of Jewish assassins vows to set an ambush and kill him. Life is going out of Paul’s control.

2. Provision for Paul

But ultimately God delivers Paul from the plot of the assassins: Paul’s nephew learns of the plot and warns the Roman commander, and Paul escapes to Caesarea with a full military escort and a letter referring his case to the provincial governor.

God delivers! As written in Revelations 3:8 (NIV), “I know your deeds. See, I have placed before you an open door that no one can shut. I know that you have little strength, yet you have kept my word and have not denied my name.” Whatever mess we are in, God delivers.

3. Conclusion

God is the only foolproof plan. He is big enough, great enough, smart enough, and powerful enough. He is always with you, even when it doesn’t seem that way. Circumstances do not limit God; God is the master of circumstances. Don’t say “God can’t deal with my circumstances—they are too complicated.” It is in those very circumstances that God wants to work through you. As Harry Ironside puts it, “God is never closer to his people than when they cannot see his face.”
